Will your strategic portfolio of critical projects and initiatives confidently deliver on the organization’s strategic ambition? More specifically will it deliver the levels of performance and efficiency, innovation and growth required over the short, medium and long term?
For anybody investing in or responsible for the sustained success of the organization, that is the million-dollar question. Although, given the scale of most projects and their ambitions, it would be more accurate to call it a multimillion-dollar question.
Answering the question requires data in respect of
- How individual projects & initiatives are performing. Are key projects or initiatives on track for success? Will they deliver not just on time and to budget, but to meet the needs of the business and its customers/stakeholders?
- The performance of the overall project portfolio. Some initiatives may be performing, while others are not. But what is the overall health of the project portfolio? Is the portfolio balanced, integrated, aligned and prioritized? Is it more than the sum of its parts?
- How the portfolio is managed. What is the organization’s track record of delivering on complex and innovative projects? To what extent has the organization got the capabilities and processes, systems and structures to consistently deliver its projects and initiatives.
- How effectively talent is leveraged to drive projects. Talent is 50% of project success, but how effectively does the organization ignite projects with passion and drive, empowering people to ‘make it happen’, harnessing the diversity, creativity and skill of executives, in networks and teams that span organizational and functional boundaries, to achieve what might otherwise have seemed impossible.
What about your strategic portfolio of projects and initiatives: How confidently will it deliver on your organization’s strategic ambition? Will it shape your organization’s future, maybe even the future of its industry? These are questions that we can help your team to answer.
