Editorial Guidelines

Editorial Policy

The publications, insights and other content we generate follows these editorial guidelines.

Intent

Our aim and intent is to be helpful.  Leveraging our data and pulling together a variety of perspectives to help the reader / viewer to determine the optimal solution or strategy for their organization, team and priorities.

We want to offer value rather than just marketing blurb, so we keep the content about us to a minimum.

It is our long-standing goal to make our research as widely accessible as possible. This is in line with our aim of giving back.

Science

We believe every organization is different and a cookie-cutter approach does not work. There is no single right answer and many perspectives are required.  Our objective is to leverage data driven insights. Also, to pull together multiple perspectives and in so doing illuminating a topic or challenge from a variety of different angles.

Gratitude

We are very grateful to all our clients, partners and associates for their input to our ongoing research and publications. We owe our best insights to them.

Referencing

Our research builds upon the work of so many others. Our aim is to reference and footnote any concepts, ideas or research that has been published by others.

We respect the intellectual property of others regardless of form (text, ideas, images, etc.). Needless to say we don’t copy or plagiarize and our content is not generated by A.I.

In all our work, our objective is to contribute to the body of existing research by adding something new, rather than to repeat what has been said before.

Standards

Is it if value?  Does it have something new to contribute – some new information or at least a new way of presenting information? The standard we apply is level of intellectual curiosity, usability and insight.

Style

Our style of language is guided by our clients. The aim is maximum read-ability with our international and, in particular North American clients in mind. Thus, the style is deliberately less formal or rigid. While our team has some ‘grammar freaks’ we focus less on where the comma should go and more finding a new way of looking an a business challenge.

Tone

Our early editorial meetings focused in on getting the right balance between positive and negative – between glass half full and glass half empty.  In general, we tend to focus on solutions, than problems. This reflects our belief in the unlimited potential of our clients for talent and creativity.

Readability

All our material is written for busy leaders, not for an academic audience.  As a result, the style is conversational with a less rigid interpretation of the formal rules of grammar, punctuation or structure.

Philosophy

Underpinning all our research output is a belief in human potential.  Specifically, the right of people to leverage and develop their potential and the obligation that organizations and leaders have for unlocking that potential, not just to drive business performance, but for the wellness of its people, and the overall benefit of society.

Nuance

Most organizational challenges are complex, with lots of interrelated and interdependent factors. That means the ‘silver bullet’ is elusive.  Although the topic may be narrowly defined, a systems perspective is required.  That means seeing performance, potential & strategy as being linked to structure, culture, executions, leadership and so on.

Complexity

In diagnosing problems we don’t view the organization as a machine, but as a complex social system.  Where the opportunities and challenges presented can be unpredictable and even messy.  We adhere to the post-modernist view of the world – where things are rarely black and white and there is no single right answer.  This means engaging multiple perspectives is even more critical.

The solutions are often as much adaptive, as technical (i.e. a change of mindset or behavior is required).   That is why we put so much emphasis on re-framing problems – helping people to see them in a new way.
